Betsy, Josh, Louise and Thea meet me in Jackson after their drive cross-country and whisked me over Teton Pass to the solid Idaho town of Victor where 'smores on the deck were a perfect way to extend last moments of vacation and summer in general. Lou and I battled it out for the perfectly browned 'smore.
After a morning of yard work and owl pellet dissections it was off to the Victor Emporium for smoothies.
Thea rocked the counter with her helmet while Lou contemplated whether I could actually drink my height in Huckleberry smoothies before I got back on the trail.
Nice face Lou. Wonderful to see Betsy and Josh after many years of FB connectivity and take a few days off the bike. Victor is as solid as it gets- summer concerts, good local restaurants, easy bike spin to downtown, awesome bike shop, huckleberry smoothies and just a hop over the Pass to world class skiing without all the shannanaghians that have muscled out the local vibe once defining the square in Jackson.
With Lou and the guys at Fitzy's wondering if I was every going to leave, I noodled up the road a few miles to Driggs to catch-up with Team Mulder on their western vacation for a wonderful couple of family days. Hotel Phoebeoi rolled out the red carpet and Mr Big and Jan could not have been nicer hosts.
While 37 and cloudy at the top of Grand Targhee hid the other Grand from view, it made the hot chocolates at the bottom taste all the better.
The fruits of a stormy day...
It was incredibly special to see family along the route and share great laughs, dinners, conversations and hugs. With heavy heart, the Colonel got re-packed and pointed north along State Line Road up towards Grassy Lake Road for a reprise and return to life on the Divide.
